this is really great. i love looking at the progression of the design on your page. what did you use for rendering? the red glass looks great

datamouth responds:

thanks SPace!
i used Modo501 for both modeling and rendering. Modo has an amazing rendering system.

ooo this is nice. the character is dope and the buildings are solid. texturing is good too. i'm not a huge fan of the lighting. also the chain-link fence is a little weird, the tops don't make sense and it doesn't make sense that the posts are super sharp rectangles. in fact all your hard edges are razor sharp. try sub-d'ing the models and making the corner edges tighter to create sharp edges without them being so razor sharp. can you post a wireframe for the character?

mascerrado responds:

thanks a lot 4 your advice! yeah, you're right, everything except the character is not hypernurbs.
er... where should i post the wireframe? sorry..

i dig this a lot

good complementary colors, dope white outline. the atmosphere is kinda ambiguous and i think the lip biting could be more exaggerated.

Lundsfryd responds:

Thanks man.. You are probably right about the lip. This was mostly an experiment with colors and gradients though.

pretty neat

i'd like to see bodies on em, or at least have them mounted over a fireplace. The 1st and 3rd are the best imo. The last row has the worst color scheme. Color-blind people would have a tough time looking at it, reds and greens like that are hard for eyes to pull apart.

torithefox responds:

I'm currently making a body for the 3rd. The last was very experimental. I dont really like the colors either aha

sick

i really like the details like the grooves on the knobs, are those geometry or bump map? i'd really like to see the wireframes of your guitars. one critique would be the lighting. i see that you are trying to do a bright "heavenly" kind of light, but the wash out is pretty ugly in my opinion. plus you could do without the random caustic under the tuning knobs and the really black shadow in the little handle cutout.

Whistler3D responds:

Thanks!
And yes, the details in the knobs are bump maps. I burn up the lights a little to much. The shadows and the reflect in the floor dont look as I expected...

ok

this ok. I am always glad to see people getting into anatomy studies. I'm in figure drawing myself right now. what this looks like is that you are getting the forms right, but not the relationships between them, which messes with the proportions. the raised leg is short, head small, torso a little long. i don't see a lot of sketching under this, probably cause you just started at it in pen which is fine. you should think about doing some in pencil

i advise not following those "how to draw" things. they are technically right but its not a good habit. try checking out pose maniacs website or get people to pose for you if you can, just for 5 minutes even. draw three volumes, the head, the ribs and the pelvis and base the length by the size of the head. then build up on that drawing. start with line drawings and then when you nail proportions try shading. its tough but keep with it

the anime face isn't my cup of tea but its whatever in the end, most people do more simplistic faces on drawings of full figures anyway.

Safst3r responds:

Thanks for the feedback, I can see what you mean with all of the things you pointed out, I don't really follow "how to draw" tutorials or wahtever and this is my first attempt at drawing from imagination and without a reference to help me. Personally I didn't think the face was that anime like but thanks for pointing it out.

I'll try to draw based on the "three volumes" thing you mentioned. Thanks for the review.

solid model

i think it could use some more texture/bump maps. I see a little on the scope i think but if you add some more to the rest. maybe some dirt/mud and such would give it more character. yeah the trigger needs work but overall it seems solid, would like to see the wireframe. if you have mental ray they have some neat stuff for glass for the scope lens but there are methods, it would be a nice detail

Dawn-Breaker responds:

Well yeah.. I wish I was more able to come up with custom made texture but I have no skill in that at all yet.. as I would love to pop some textures on it with cuts or more puncture bumps in the gun and all.. but yeah, kept it to a standard metal bump texture.. though I didnt want to over do the value on the bump because it didn't make it look any better.

Non the less thanks for the review!

solid model

its a nice looking model. can the lid close? also if you made the keys individual objects, you might be able to mess with some incandescence to get the keys (and the apple) to glow. also you might want to change the material on the ports so they aren't the same grey as the body.

gr33bl3r responds:

thanks for the review!

yes the lid is rotatable and i can mess with all of the emit values of the keys, the screen and even the apple on the back that you cant see in this picture.

you might be right about the ports. thanks.

my favorite of the three.

its partly the more graphic style on this one that i like it better as a deck design. The other two seem more like paintings cropped into skateboards while this one seems to deal more with design inside the frame of the deck. i also really like the texture on the ginger bread guy(s).

TyraWM responds:

Thanks a lot :)
All the designs were made with the outlined skateboard frame, but yeah this one is more like the other designs people make for decks

you can taste

the rtil influence. pretty nice, dig the shade colors and the ramona flowers hairdo

Sashura responds:

interesting, i dont think anyone has ever compared my style to rtil's before.

definitely not a bad thing, but i hope i can make mine more distinct eventually

cut your losses, lock all the doors and burn the house down
